James, a retired vascular surgeon, spent much of his career saving lives. After retirement, he pursued a longtime passion for restoration and construction, obtaining his contractor’s license. Today, he meticulously restores historic homes in downtown St. Augustine, blending respect for the past with the comforts of modern living.

Sonya, who served as the practice administrator for James’s medical practice for many years, found her second career in Interior Design. She has since opened Sonya’s Decor Uptown, a luxury furniture boutique; Sonya’s Home, a curated home accessory store; and Uptown Design, a full-service Interior Design Center. Sonya’s eye for detail, love of fine furnishings, and knack for creating inviting, sophisticated spaces set the tone for every property.   

Together, Sonya and James work side by side — James rebuilding the soul of historic properties, and Sonya dressing them in refined, luxurious style. Their vacation homes are not only beautifully renovated but also exquisitely decorated with high-end furnishings, unique accessories, and thoughtful design touches that elevate the guest experience.
